Insights from Our Team on the Ground in Singapore

The Australasian Hotel Industry Conference and Exhibition (AHICE) has long been a pivotal event for hoteliers, investors, and industry professionals looking to stay ahead of market trends, connect with key players, and explore the future of hospitality. This year, AHICE made its mark in Singapore after its debut last year, bringing together a dynamic mix of professionals including our own two, Michael MacDonald and Nick Hollows. Let’s share their experiences, key takeaways, and reflections on the event.

Why We Attended AHICE SEA 2025

Our decision to attend AHICE SEA was driven by four core reasons:

  • Networking – Engaging with like-minded professionals and expanding our industry network.
  • Strengthening Partnerships – Connecting with existing partners and fostering collaborations on the ground.
  • Meeting New Industry Leaders – Establishing relationships with key stakeholders and influencers.
  • Understanding the Southeast Asian Market – Gaining deeper insights into the evolving landscape of hospitality in the region.

While this was not our first AHICE experience, having attended previously the AHICE Asia Pacific event in Adelaide, it was our first time at AHICE in Singapore—an exciting new setting with a different industry focus and unique regional insights.

The Atmosphere: Energy, Excitement, and a Hunger for Understanding

The event buzzed with enthusiasm as attendees eagerly absorbed information, engaged in discussions, and explored new opportunities in the hotel sector.

Pan Pacific Singapore out did themselves with the event offerings, the food, drinks, and space was impeccable – no notes!

Conference Experience: Key Speakers and Takeaways

Standout Speakers & Panels

Several speakers and panels left a lasting impression, including:

  • Stuart Trevor – Provided insightful discussions on sustainability in the industry.
  • Tony Ryan – Delivered thought-provoking insights on market trends and highlighting sturdy growth in Australia and Singapore markets.
  • F&B Trends Panel featuring Benjamin Krieg & Tony Chisholm – A particularly engaging discussion on evolving food and beverage trends that are shaping guest experiences and business models. A surprising trend is the vast number of F&B venues are closing in Singapore – what could be the cause? Will we see this in other locations? Can HyperHotels assist in these markets?

Exceeding Expectations

Attending with an open mind and no firm expectations, we were pleasantly surprised by the conference’s focus on quality over quantity. While the number of attendees was smaller than anticipated, this resulted in deeper, more meaningful interactions and stronger knowledge-sharing. Walked out with a pep in our step.

Networking & Relationship Building: The Real Value of AHICE

Memorable Connections

While there were too many to count, a few key individuals stood out:

  • Rodger Powell – A highly accommodating and resourceful industry expert who left a strong impression, Mr. Memorable!
  • DKO – Connecting with a different portion of the sector, forward thinking designers.
  • Chris Thornley – An influential figure whose insights were particularly valuable, looking to build his first hotel – what a goal to work towards!

Why Networking at AHICE is Crucial

Events like AHICE play a vital role in fostering relationships in the hotel sector. In an industry where collaboration, partnerships, and shared knowledge drive success, the importance of face-to-face interactions cannot be overstated. AHICE SEA reinforced just how crucial it is to build and maintain strong industry relationships.

Wrapping Up: Our Final Thoughts on AHICE SEA 2025

We asked our team to sum up their AHICE experience in three words:

  • Michael: Rigorous, fun, rewarding.
  • Nick: Action-packed, entertaining, insightful.

Advice for Future Attendees

Thinking of attending AHICE next year? Here are a few key pieces of advice from our team:

  • Be prepared for long days, pace yourself – The conference schedule is packed with valuable sessions and networking opportunities. (And maybe bring some Panadol for the late nights!)
  • Bring physical business cards – Essential for making the most of networking in the Southeast Asian market.
  • Engage beyond the sessions – Don’t just attend the talks—participate in activities, networking drinks, and gala dinners to maximise your experience. Jump in the deep end and meet as many people as possible.

Looking Ahead: AHICE and the Future of Hospitality

AHICE SEA 2025 provided an incredible platform for learning, connection, and innovation. As we move forward, the insights gained from the conference will play a pivotal role in shaping our strategies and partnerships in the region. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event and can’t wait to see how the hospitality landscape continues to evolve.
